Grannie Square Bookmark

If you’re looking for a quick and easy crochet project, then a bookmark from a grannie square is a good option! You can make one with almost any square and the options are endless!

I made this one with a square from the Hooked on Crochet Club and will be giving my members a tutorial on how to make one in next week’s hook and learn lesson in the clubhouse. I opted to only do 3 rounds of 5 and because of the design of this square, you could change up the look every time by playing with the orientation of the filet and solid sides. You can also change it up easily with different colour combinations or keep it to a single colour. This one also ended up quite long. If you don’t want it hanging out of both ends of the book or if you read smaller sized books, you could also get away with only 3 or 4 squares.

When making a bookmark I would choose a yarn that needs a 3mm hook or smaller as you don’t want to make it too bulky inside the book. You can view my yarn vs hook guide in last week’s blog post for guidance of what size yarn would be ok. I would also choose a square that doesn’t have too much texture for the same reason.

To make this bookmark I used Yarn and Colours must have minis that were in my stash. Each square has been joined by sewing the squares through the back loops only with the squares held front sides facing. To do the sewing I used a colour of one of the squares I was joining so that it was less visible. I have then completed two rounds of single crochet as an outer edge and then weved in the edges I forgot o crochet in.

So what square and colours would you choose?
