A Washcloth with Basic Stitches that Looks Fancy

If you’ve only mastered the basic stitches or you just want something simple to make that isn’t going to mess with your head too much, then this month’s washcloth is what you need!

This month’s washcloth looks a little bit fancy, but it is made using only basic stitches. The only tricky bit is the repeats in the corners, and even those aren’t as difficult as they might seem. This one I am calling Flutterwheel. I put a call out on social media for a name as I was drawing blanks. I ended up combining a couple of the suggestions that I was given to give it it’s name.

What can I tell you about this washcloth? It is worked in the round, which means we’re creating it from the middle out. This one is square, though it’s not a perfect square as the corners are a little bit rounded. When you’re making it, you’ll notice that it has a 5 round repeat, but there are some simple rules that will become evident so it is relatively easy to remember the majority of it without double checking the pattern. Simply put (and using US terms), single crochets are worked into double crochets, and double crochets are worked into single crochets. The chain spaces are skipped, except for the one that is made in the corner.

I think this one will make a lovely blanket for a whirl or lola too! And the instructions in the pattern outline how to make it bigger if you find that you’re enjoying it. I’ve made it using KnitPicks Dishie, which is a 100% cotton designed for washcloths.

All my Hooked on Crochet Club members will have access to this in the members only hub. If you’re not a member then you can buy a copy from any of my store locations below:
