How to Crochet a Chevron Pattern

I think a chevron pattern was one of the top designs that drew me further into the world of crochet when I first started learning. In fact, my first completed blanket was a chevron design – a very poorly, uneven chevron design – but still a favourite of mine.

I’ve gotten better at the design over the years and found that some are much easier to follow than others. The design I used in this month’s washcloth is one of the easier ones to follow! Partly because the zigzags are much more exagerated, which makes it much easier to follow where the peaks and valleys are. Another is that the valleys are created from skipping stitches and not from working them together.

So if you’ve not tried chevron yet, or you’re looking for a new and easy variation to try, then this month’s washcloth is the one to try! I have called it ‘Do Not Adjust The Set’, which is an out of the box suggestion from Kerry, a member of the Hooked on Crochet Club, who said that it reminded her of old school tv’s when they went fuzzy – probably something totally lost on the younger generations! It uses single crochet (UK double crochet) worked into the back loop only so the stitches are beginner friendly. It also comes with instructions that are adjustable, so once you get comfortable making the washcloth you can then create anything that you set you mind to!

This one is also a great stashbuster! I haven’t dictated where the colour changes are – that is entirely up to you – so you can recreate a better version in any colour combination that you choose. If you’re ready to buy then head to one of the locations below to get it. Members of the Hooked on Crochet Club can find it in the hub already.

If you’re looking for a yarn to make dishcloths in, then I recommend Knit Picks Dishie. It’s designed for washcloths and has a great colour range to choose from too. I always have a stash of it on hand and have done for year now.

This is the nineth washcloth in my forth series of washcloths! If you purchase directly from my store then you’ll also find some big savings if you buy the bundles from series 1-3 and by adding $20 or more to your cart you’ll automatically receive an additional discount too. It’s only available in my online store though as it’s the only place I have control over the savings and fees.

Anyways…are you ready to give it a try?
