A Boho Style Bag from Granny Squares

I love bags and this style bag has been on my to do list for a while. i’m not sure why it has taken me so long to make one either, as it is a favourite style.

I haven’t lined this bag, but I feel that I should. Without a lining I’m going to be limited to carrying light items in it. A lining would make it less likely to lose it’s shape and stop any small items falling out through the cracks..

I’ve used 4 balls of a 10ply/worsted weight cotton – Scheepjes Cahlista. Each square used all of a single ball, plus some from the forth ball to finish the last round. Each square is roughly 25cm each side. I’ve joined with single crochet by using one square as the base and attaching two of it’s sides to one square and the remaining two sides to the second square. I had a leather bag strap in my stash from a kit I bought and I have sewn it on. I would be tempted to buy an adjustable strap instead. I made a ‘clasp’ with a button hole in it and attached it to one side of the bag and added a button to the opposite side.

The square I used was my Iris – Goddess of Rainbows pattern which can be used to make many different things. You can use nay square that you choose.

I’ll be showing the members of my Hooked on Crochet Club how I made this square in our live Hook and Learn lesson next week, and they’ll have access to the replay afterwards as well. 1. Hi Seona, Such a cute bag with that granny square and in my favorite color, Lavender. I have not made a bag yet, but wanted to make a granny square sunflower bag for my daughter-in-law. I would add a liner in the boho bag to keep little things from falling through the holes. Thank you for the inspiration!
