Are you ready to start learning to crochet, but are feeling stuck about where to start. You might have already tried a few things and just find yourself feeling totally stuck and overwhelmed. Well I am here to share with you a very simple checklist for what things you need to learn. And I encourage you to work them in order and not move onto the next one in the list until you’re feeling comfortable enough to tick it as complete.

I’m going to begin by listing each one out. After that if you feel you need more I will direct you to some resources that I have that you can use to help you in the learning process.
- Learn how to match your hook to your yarn
- Learn to hold the hook and yarn
- Learn to make a slip knot
- Learn to yarn over and make a chain
- Learn where to insert your hook into the chain
- Learn to make single crochet (UK double crochet)
- Learn to make half double crochet (UK half treble)
- Learn to make double crochet (UK treble)
- Learn to work in rows
- Learn to work in rounds
- Learn to fasten off
- Learn the stitch symbols and abbreviations to help you learn to read a pattern
- Start to create small projects
Now that might seem like a long list. For some of you it will be a breeze to work through and for others you might find yourself stuck on the first 3 for ages. Where ever you are in learning and however long it takes is normal. Everyone learns at their own pace and in their own way. You just need to learn to be patient with yourself and trust in the process.
And I’ll urge you again to work through the list in order as each one is a foundation for the next item in the list. You’ll learn much more quickly if you work through them in the order provided.
Now if you’re after resources that can help you then I have another list.
