How to Make a Bucket Bag From Granny Squares

This month’s granny square project combines two loves – granny squares and bags!

This one is a small version as I was limited to just two balls of the yarn that I chose to use, but it can easily be made bigger. Isn’t it just the cutest bucket bag?

I made this one by first making the squares to my preferred size. I made 6 of them. I then made a hexagon for the base and made it so that each side was the same length as one square. If you want a bigger bag then you could have more squares per side or make your squares bigger to begin with. I then joined the squares and attached them to the hexagon. Last step was to then work around the top side of the squares. I added enough rows to be the same height as the squares, then made a row with some holes for the cord, and then added more rows until I was out of yarn.

I would definitely be willing to make this in a much bigger size. I recommend using a cotton or a cotton blend yarn. I used Scheepjes Mighty which is a Jute + cotton blend perfect for bags.

There is so much potential for this style bag! You could get really creative with this one. I’ll add a video to my YouTube playlist soon too so keep an eye out for it. I’ll go into even more detail in a hook and learn with my Hooked on Crochet Club members.
