How to Remember Crochet Stitches

The struggle to remember the name, the abbreviation, the symbol, how to make it and if it is in US or UK terms is real for crochet stitches! When you’re just starting out or haven’t picked up a hook in a while it can be enough to drive you batty. You just want to get on with making something and instead you’re getting confused with what stitches you were making when you last picked up your hook or your project. You get so caught up in trying to remember that you most likely pack it all in and go on with something else that isn’t so frustrating.

Let me make it easier for you.

First, I wish there was an easy way to create a memory bank for you. But that only comes with time and practice. It’s normal to have to look up the stitches when you pick up your hook, especially if you leave it with weeks or months in between. The more you crochet, the more likely you are to remember everything – just like with anything else that you have to learn!

Now I could give you a rhyme or a trick, but then you’d have to remember that before you can remember what it refers to and none of us have time for that either.

What I can offer is a pocket guide for crochet stitches. Something that is easy to store on your phone or to have printed out and kept with your projects. But something that is also designed to help you remember everything more easily. Inside you’ll find the stitches with written instructions and picture guides in my easy to remember ‘stitch bubbles’. Everything is in US and UK terms so you no longer have to figure out which is which and can easily convert any english pattern.

What I can also offer right now is a cheats guide to the symbols, abbreviations and how to make the basic crochet stitches. Safe this blog, download and save the image so that you have it with you at all times. If you need more than that, then definitely go for the pocket guide. The pocket gudie also has tutorials for the special stitches so that you always have them on hand too.

Other than these resources, you just need to practice more!
