This month’s granny square project is a little bit different. Instead of a project made entirely of granny squares, I decided to make one that used granny squares for embellishment!

What do you think?!
This idea is perfect for those of you that have created, or know how to create a basic scarf but want to dress it up a bit.
I’ve created this with 200g of a cotton yarn. I began by making the squares and tassles – or in this case triangles! – and then used the remaining yarn to create a scarf. The traingles were attached at each end to jazz it all up a bit. The first triangle I used as the foundation for the scarf by crocheting on one side. The second one I attached once I had the length. You can always attached both at the end, but just be sure to get width of the side that you’re attaching to match the width of the scarf.
I encourage you to begin with the squares so that you don’t accidently run out of yarn. And it also allows you too use up as much as yarn as possible to get the length of it. A great way to maximise yarn usage and minimise yarn waste!
The body of the scarf was a project from a recent month in the Hooked on Crochet Club members library. The triangle was an ‘square’ from the library from a few years ago. I want to be able to inspire our members to get creative with the projects they have access to. And while you don’t have access to the same projects (you’re welcome to join though!) it still serves as an idea to inspire you with what ever patterns you do access.
You can add any style square to the bottom. You don’t need to add tassels, but I think they add a nice touch. Pompoms would also work!
Let me know what you think!
