Crochet Wins, Big and Small

When you look back at your year of crochet how does it make you feel? Did you make everything that you wanted to make? Did your WIP pile (work in progress pile) get bigger or smaller or stay the same? Did you crochet as often as you wanted? Did you learn anything new or stick with what you already felt comfortable with? How is your yarn stash looking?

No matter how you feel when you immediately think back, I encourage you to find the wins! Maybe one of the WIPs in your pile has been there since 2020 and is still unfinished, but you added a stitch, a row or a few rows – that’s a win! If it’s progressed a little bit further than it was at the beginning of the year that all counts – hello to my Queen CAL still sitting unfinished!

Maybe you decided that it was time to frog something that has been sitting there filling your mind and stressing you out because you know you just don’t want to finish it. That’s a win too as you now have the yarn to make something you really love – it’s an even bigger win if you’ve already done that too!

Did you use up or give away some yarn in your stash? Or did you finally say yes to you and buy the yarn that really spoke to you, even though you don’t know what to make with it yet.

Did you step out of your comfort zone and start a CAL (crochet along) or learn a new stitch or technique?

What wins do you have?

It’s important to celebrate the wins. Too often we get caught up and focussed on all that we didn’t do that we forget that we actually achieved something along the way. Even if it was a lesson learned that doesn’t feel like a win, if we learned something from it then it counts!

My wins this year…

I consistently designed, created and published two projects, a square, a washcloth and a granny square project every single month (that sounds A LOT even to me as I type it out and read it back). I also created and published my first ever crochet along – the JOYCAL 2025! I’m almost finished with my 6th? and last (for a while) temperature blanket. I finished a baby blanket. I bought new yarn – not all of it has been touched yet. I helped hundreds of other crocheters with their crochet too! These are huge wins for me.

There were little wins too. I picked up my hook every day. I frogged a top I was making so that I could use the yarn for a different design. I discovered a new favourite yarn holder. I gave hooks and yarn to some colleagues at work and kicked them off with a lesson. I have decided that I probably won’t continue with two of the projects in my WIP pile – I just haven’t told the people who requested them.

If you’re reading all this and struggling to come up with a win, please don’t fret. It can take practice to find the wins. It’s something that I’ve been working on to make a daily practice and some days it is really really hard to find a win. If crochet hasn’t been a big focus for you this year, the win can be recognising that and thinking about why that is. That can then help you to find a way to make things different next year.

There is still time to find some wins too! My Square a Day Challenge is designed to help you find a small win every day. You can sign up for it at any time and catch a win before the year is out. Or you can pencil it in to your diary to do it with everyone else when I bring it back as a focussed challenge in February 2026.

There is still time in the year to catch a win – what will that be for you.

And share and celebrate them! We share our wins every month inside the Hooked on Crochet Club. You can add them to the comments below so that we can celebrate them with you!
