Starting over is never a failure. Whether we’re talking crochet or life, starting over is an opportunity to try again and to (hopefully) do better this time by learning from our past experience. And that doesn’t mean that repeating the same mistakes is a problem either. It simply means that we still have more to learn.

Having to start over can make us feel like we’re falling or have fallen behind. Like we’re not good enough, or even like we’re failing because we couldn’t get something right that so many others have somehow mastered. I want to remind you though that everyone starts somewhere, and you usually only see someone elses finished results and not all the messy middle and repeated set backs.
I want to encourage you to embrace the journey!
Whether you’re starting over on a single (or multiple) projects or trying to get back into crochet after weeks, months or years, none of it is a failure.
Starting over on a project is an opportunity to build on your confidence and be happier with the outcome, or it’s an opportunity to put your yarn to something that you’ll enjoy making and using more.
Starting over after a long break is an opporunity to fall in love with the craft again. You’ll revisit with a different mindset and a fresh perspective which can open you up to even more projects and stitches.
Also remember that mastering something once or twice or a hundred times does not mean that you won’t mess it up the next time. I have made hundreds, probably thousands of granny squares by now and I can assure you that I still make mistakes. Mistakes that I either leave in and embrace or I frog back and try again – which one I choose depends entirely on the mistake and what the project is for.
So next time you feel like your failing and falling behind, try to tell yourself a different story. There can be a blessing hiding away in the restart, you just need to be open to it!
If you’re craving a bit more structure — not pressure, just something steady to lean on — my Kickstart membership was created for exactly this stage.
It’s for women who want to feel more confident with patterns, stay consistent without overwhelm, and stop feeling like they’re constantly starting over.
