It’s coming up to that time of year where many of you will be looking for quick crochet project ideas. Teacher gifts are looming, stocking stuffers will be needed, and then there is the office Kris Kringle gifts.
This month’s granny square project idea is bound to tick all of those boxes! Especially if you have someone that still loves to read paper books like me.

Bookmarks made from granny squares give you unlimited ideas! I would aim to use a thinner ply yarn in a cotton or mercerised cotton if you can. Mercerised cotton will give it a lovely sheen and will make it a little bit hardier. Any cotton though will provide great stitch definition. I have used Hobbii Rainbow 8/4 cotton in this one. Aim for a sport weight or 4 ply yarn or even lighter if you can manage a smaller hook.
I have used a square from the Hooked on Crochet Club for this one, but only used 3 of the rounds to keep it smaller and then added a different border so that I could use a Join as You Go technique to join. I wanted it to look like a spring flower garden – I’m not sure if I succeeded or not, but I’m happy with it!
The beautiful thing about granny square bookmarks is that you will truly never run out of options! You can choose any square – I would opt for one without too much texture though. You can even add tassels and tails too. Just change up the colours and you have a whole new bookmark.
