A Different Type of Bookmark to Crochet

I was a bit dubious when I first decided to try this bookmark style out. I was basing it on a cloth bookmark that came across my newsfeed somewhere and kept the idea for ages before trying it out. My first attemps were failuers as i was trying to make the top piece a triangle, but don’t yet have the right type of triangle in my patterns yet. So I eventually just decided to go with two squares to see what that looked like.

What do you think? It got a majority positive reaction when I shared it on my instagram stories, so I decided I would just go ahead and publish it and let you decide for yourself it is is a go or no go for you.

If nothing else, it is simple to make. I used mercerised 4ply cotton and two squares from the Hooked on Crochet Club library – did you know we have almost 60 squares to choose from now?! And I keep adding a new one every month. I only did 4 of the 5 rounds and then joined the two squares on two sides using single crochet, then finished going round the last two sides of each square individually. If you did my square a day challenge then this is an idea you can use for a couple of the squares too.

I recommend keeping the yarn to 4ply or thinner. Mercerised will wear longer going in and out of a book. I would also stick to flat stitches so as to not bulk up the book any more than you need to when using the bookmark.
