This one is a favourite of mine in the series! It’s a nice lacey look that will pretty up any bathroom or kitchen.
Treble (double treble) is a basic stitch that isn’t used often as a main stitch design – at least not in the patterns I’ve used or written – so this washcloth will give you lots of practice!
Below are the instructions in US terms. You can also purchase the pattern in full in the places listed below and the purchased pattern contains both US and UK terms. The purchased pattern also contains the instructions for making the basic stitches for in case they’re new to you.
Materials I used, are my trusting KnitPicks Dishie in Blossom. It’s a worsted weight yarn, but you can use any 100% cotton and follow the instructions in the purchased pattern for how to adjust the size.
So here we go:
tr = Treble = Double treble in UK terms
sc = single crochet = double crochet in UK terms
Begin | Chain 42. |
Row 1. | 1sc in the second chain from the hook
· Ch2, skip 3, 4tr into next chain · Ch2, skip 3, 1sc into next chain · Repeat steps in bold until the end. · Turn |
Row 2. | Ch1, 1sc into the first stitch
· Ch3, skip the ch2 space and 1 treble, 1sc into next treble (the 2nd treble in group of 4) · Ch3, skip the next 2 treble and the ch2 space, 1sc into the sc. · Repeat the steps in bold until the end. · Turn. |
Row 3. | Ch4 (counts as 1 treble), 1 treble into first stitch
· Ch2, skip the ch3 space, 1sc into the next sc · Ch2, skip the ch3 space, 4tr into next sc · Repeat steps in bold until end, but omit last tr (3tr in last stitch) · Turn |
Row 4. | Ch1, 1sc into 1st stitch
· Ch3, skip 2 treble and ch2 space, 1sc into next sc · Ch3, skip ch2 and 1 treble, 1sc into next treble (the 2nd treble in group of 4) · Repeat steps in bold, ending in top of turning chain · Turn

Row 6-22 | Keep repeating rows 2-5, finishing with a row 2. |
Row 23 / Border Rnd 1 | Ch1
Side 1: 3sc into each ch3 space and 1sc into each sc Corner: 3sc Side 2: 1sc into each sc, 4sc around post of each treble Corner: 3sc Side 3: 3sc into each ch3 space, 1 sc into base of trebles, 1sc into base of sc Corner: 3sc Side 4: 1sc into each sc, 4sc around each ch4 Corner: 3sc Finish by ss to the top of the first sc. |
Round 2 | Ch1, Work 1sc into each stitch on the sides, & 3sc into the middle stitch of the 3sc of each corner. Ss to the top of the first sc. |
Round 3 | Repeat round 2. |
