I’m not sure what prompted this granny square idea, but for such a simple one I love how it turned out! I see this as being a quick and simple gift idea for Christmas or birthdays, or even a teacher gift.

It’s a wall hanging! It’s relatively simple and can be adapted for almost any square and for almost any size.

I made mine from a traditional solid granny square and some Scheepjes Catona that was in my stash. This yarn is a 100% mercerised cotton so it has a lovely shine to it. The only other item you need (besides a hook) is a canvas block. I purchased a 6 inch square block from my local craft store.

To make it I made the square as normal until I had one round left to reach the full size of the canvas. I then did one round where I replaced the chain 3 of the corner with a double crochet (UK treble) instead. I then worked the remaining rounds without increasing – so it was one stitch into every stitch. The very final round was single crochet (UK double crochet) as this took me to the edge of the block.

It was fun! And I managed to make it in a couple of hours in front of the tv. I’ll be giving my clubhouse members a live tutorial on how to make it in our Hook and Learn lesson next week.
