How to Make a Tissue Box Cover from Granny Squares

Now this is one of my favourite granny square projects of all time! It’s simple, it’s practical and it makes for an easy gift too. This will definitely be one that I make in different colours in the months and years to come.

I used Paintbox Aran Cotton for this one. I’ve used the DK cotton a lot, but this was my first time using the aran weight and I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely by buying this yarn again.

But I’m off track.

I started by making a square with a hole in it for the top. I used my circle to square as a base but skipped the circle part, made a large chain loop, filled it with 36 single crochet and went straight to the square part. The size didn’t need any adjusting as it fit perfectly to my tissue box. (for reference I get the ‘Who Gives a Crap’ tissues).

I then made 4 squares using traditional granny and different colours for each round. I don’t like to change colours wiht squares, but I made it work by doing each square one round at a time – so round 1 of all 4 squares, then round 2 of them all and so on until they were made.

To join I just used single crochet. I joined them all to the top first and then joined each side. Once joined I added a round of single crochet around the bottom. Simple!

If you need to resize because of yarn or a different shaped tissue box then make sure that the squares are a little bit smaller than what you want to put them on. You’ll want a snuggish fit and this is achieved by having to stretch the squares a little to fit.

I love this one! You can gift it on it’s own or with a box of tissues or even a full bulk supply of them! I also have refer a friend turned on so if you drop my name in the checkout of your order then you might get a discount too.

If you enjoyed seeing how this square can come together in a project like this, imagine having a new square to explore each month — without having to search, second-guess, or rely on video after video.
