Petal Retreat: A Crochet Washcloth for Rest That Doesn’t Need to be Earned.

There’s a kind of rest most of us are familiar with.

The kind that comes after everything is done.

After the house is clean.
After the emails are sent.
After everyone else has what they need.

And even then… it can feel like we have to justify it.

But lately, I’ve been thinking about a different kind of rest.

The kind that isn’t earned.

The kind that you allow yourself simply because you need it.

Petal Retreat was created in that space.

This design came from a place of feeling like I was constantly trying to catch up.

Like no matter how much I did, there was always something else waiting.

And in that space, rest kept getting pushed further and further away.

What I needed wasn’t more productivity.

I needed permission.

Permission to pause.
Permission to slow down.
Permission to do something that didn’t serve anyone else.

Crochet became that space again.

Not for output.
Not for progress.

Just… for me.

Petal Retreat has a softness to it — not just in how it feels, but in how it works up.

There’s a gentle rhythm in the stitches.

Nothing rushed.
Nothing complicated for the sake of it.

Just enough texture to keep your hands engaged…

And enough repetition to let your mind settle.

It’s the kind of project you can come back to at the end of the day when your energy is low, but you still want something grounding.

This is the washcloth to pick up when:

  • You feel like you should be doing something more “productive”
  • You’ve been putting yourself last (again)
  • You’re waiting for the “right time” to rest
  • You just need something that feels calm and steady

You don’t need to earn this time.

You’re allowed to take it.

Rest is not a reward.

It’s not something you unlock once everything else is done.

It’s something your body and mind need — regularly, consistently, and without guilt.

And sometimes…

Creating something small, simple, and beautiful is exactly what that looks like.

As you work through Petal Retreat, you might like to sit with this:

Where do I still believe I must earn my rest?

There’s no right answer.

Just notice what comes up.

If you’d like to make Petal Retreat, the full pattern is available inside the Washcloth Club.

Each month, I design patterns like this to help you not only improve your crochet skills…

But to give you something that feels like yours.

A small pocket of time.
A moment to breathe.
A way to reconnect with yourself through your hands.

This one isn’t about how quickly you finish it.

Or how perfect your stitches are.

It’s about letting yourself have something…

Without needing to justify it.
