It’s time for the new addition to my washcloth series for 2020!  If you missed the previous ones, you can find them at these links: Honeycomb and Mulberry.

Meet Jalopeno!

I don’t know why I find it so hard to come up with names for my patterns!  This one is named (again) after the name of the yarn I used, which was KnitPicks Dishie in Jalopeno.  The design is more open than the previous ones, but it is still a super useful and fun design to make and being more open also means you can probably get more washcloths out of one ball of yarn too.

Some basic instructions for how to make it are outlined below.   If you would like the full instructions in both US and UK terms, with a picture guide for each row, then you can buy the more detailed pattern from any of these places:

I used a 5mm hook to make this and the finish size was 28cm x 28cm.

Begin: chain 40

Row 1: Work 1 double crochet (treble) into the 4th chain from your hook.  Then skip 2 chains, and work 3 double crochet (treble) into the next stitch.  Keep repeating the steps in italics until you have 3 chains left.  Work 2 double crochet (treble) into the last chain.

Row 2: chain 3 and work 1 double crochet into 2nd stitch.  Chain 2 and make 3 double crochet (treble) together across the next 3 double crochet (treble).  Repeat the steps in italics until you have the 2 stitches left at the end.  Make 2 double crochet (treble) together across the last two stitches.

Row 3: chain 3, and work 3 double crochet (treble) into each chain 2 space.  Finish with 1 double crochet (treble) in the last stitch.

Row 4: chain 4, Make 3 double crochet (treble) together across the next 3 double crochet (treble) and chain 2.  Repeat the steps in italics until you have the chain 3 left at the end.  Chain 1 and work 1 double crochet into the top of the chain 3.

Row 5: chain 3 and 1 double crochet (treble) into the first stitch. Work 3 double crochet (treble) into each chain 2 space.  Finish with 2 double crochet (treble) in the last stitch.

Keep repeating rows 2-5 until you have 17 rows, then repeat row 2.

For the border: the border is 2 rounds of single crochet (double crochet), with 3 single crochet (double crochet) in the corners.  In round one, work 2 stitches into the chain 2 spaces and 1 stitch into the double crochets (trebles).  On the sides, work 2 stitches around the post or chain 3 of the stitches at the end of each row.  In round two, work 1 stitch into each of the stitches from the round before, with 3 stitches in the middle stitch of the corner.

If you’re needing more instruction or guidance then I recommend  purchasing the pattern as there are more specific instructions as well as instructions for how to make all of the stitches.

Have fun!  And I will have another one out next month.  If you don’t want to miss out, then be sure to get onto my email listas I email this out every month.   The full pattern is provided to all clubhouse members every month as a bonus for being a member.  If you would like to consider being a member be sure to add your name to the waitlist for when the doors next open!
