Washcloth 04: Blueberry

It’s time for another washcloth!

This one is called blueberry and it’s made with the puff stitch!

I love this one! The puff stitch is a relatively easy stitch to create. There are a few tricks to it, and some yarns make it easier than others, but once you get into the swing of it it’s quite fun!

As always I have made this with my trusty KnitPicks dishie yarn, a 100% cotton designed for use in washcloths. A 100g ball is plenty for this one.

If you’re not familiar with the puff stitch, here are some instructions for making it:

YO, insert hook into stitch, YO pull up a loop (to height of a double crochet/treble), repeat bold steps 3 more times so that you have pulled up a loop 4 times and have 9 loops on your hook. YO, pull through all loops on your hook

To make the washcloth using US terms:

Begin Chain 39

Row 1.

  • 1dc in the 3rd chain from the hook, 1puff stitch in the next chain
  • Ch1, skip 1, 1puff in the next stitch
  • Repeat the steps in bold until 1 chain left, 1dc in the last chain
  • Ch2 and turn

Row 2.

  • 1dc in the 1st stitch, ch1
  • 1puff, ch1 in the next ch1 space
  • Repeat the steps in bold in each ch1 space until no chain spaces left
  • 1dc in the last stitch
  • Ch2 and turn

Row 3.

  • 1dc in the first stitch, 1puff in the 1st ch1 space
  • Ch1, 1puff in the next ch1 space
  • Repeat the steps in bold until no chain spaces left
  • 1dc in the last stitch
  • Ch2 and turn

Row 4 – 22 Repeat rows 2 & 3, finishing with a row 2 repeat and do not complete the last ch2.

Border

Rnd 1.

  • Ch1 and turn.
  • Side 1: 1sc into the 1st stitch. Work 1sc into the top of each puff stitch and 2sc into each ch1 space
  • Corner 1: 1sc, ch1, 1sc
  • Side 2: 2sc around the ch2 or dc at the end of each row
  • Corner 2: repeat corner 1
  • Side 3: repeat side 1
  • Corner 3: repeat corner 1
  • Side 4: Repeat side 2
  • Ss to the top of the first sc.

Rnd 2.

  • Ch1, 1sc into each stitch to the corner
  • 1sc, ch1, 1sc into the corner ch1 space
  • Repeat the steps in bold for each side and corner.
  • Ss to the top of the 1st single crochet to finish.
  • Fasten off and you’re done!

And that’s it!
