Welcome to number 6 in my washcloth series!
In my notes I had planned to call this one citrus bliss. I could not figure out why since my notes also said to make it in this light grey, almost white colour. It was in double checking my notes that I realised I had meant to make it in an orange with this colour as the border. There was nothing left for me to do but to rename this one to something that might be closer to being this colour. So now we have cream pie instead of citrus bliss. maybe you could make it in the colour I had originally intended?
Now this washcloth is probably the easiest and one of the prettiest in the series so far. I absolutely love when the simple comes out so pretty!
As always I have used KnitPicks Dishie to make this washcloth. The colour was “clarity”.
And I really meant it when I said this one was simple. If you can do double crochet (treble in UK terms) then you can do this one. This pattern uses the “wide double crochet” (wdc) which is made by inserting your stitch inbetween the posts insead of into the top if the stitch. Think of it as working into a chain one space without having a chain space. Way too easy!
So here are the instructions for making this one. They’re in US terms so if you want to use UK terms, the wide double crochet is a wide treble and the single crochet is a double crochet. I also opted to work the single crochet between the stitches too.
Begin | Chain 40 |
Row 1. | 1dc into the 2nd chain from the hook and into each chain until the end. ch2 and turn. |
Row 2. | 1wdc for each stitch. ch2 and turn. |
Row 3-28 | Repeat row 2. |
Rnd 1 | Ch1. For side 1 and 3, continue to work between the posts.
Side 1: Work 1 sc between each stitch Corner: 1sc, ch2, 1sc Side 2: work around the stitch or ch2 on the end – aim for 38 sc down the side Corner: 1sc, ch2, 1sc Side 3: repeat side 1 Corner: 1sc, ch2, 1sc Side 4: repeat side 2. Corner: 1sc, ch2, 1sc Ss to the top of the 1st sc to close the round
|
Rnd 2 | Ch1, work 1sc into each sc on the sides and 1sc, ch2, 1sc into each ch2 corner space.
Ss to the top of the 1st sc to close the round.
|
Rnd 3 | Ch2, 1sc, ch1 into each stitch on the side, and 1sc, ch2, 1sc, ch1 into each corner.
Ss to the 1st ch of the 1st ch2 to close the round. Fasten off! |
If you want to adjust the size just make more or less chains to begin with in any stitch count and then adjust the rows until it’s a square.
If you would like to purchase the pdf with both terms and all stitch instructions then you can find it at any of the following locations:
