Magic Circle Tutorial

A magic circle is a technique used to begin a project that is worked in the round. I will use it for the beginning of a hat worked form the top down, bags, amigurumi and sometimes squares. If my squares are being turned into a blanket then I will almost always start with a chain turned into a ring. This is because I have had to repair a number of my blankets that I started using a magic ring as I didn’t weave in my ends too well.

Before you start playing with a magic circle, you will want to be comfortable holding your hook and yarn as it can take some getting used to!

  2. Whenever I do the loop, the working string ends up inside the loop, and I can’t get it out. I try over and over again, but it doesn’t work. Please help! I have been struggling with this problem for a while now.

    1. The magic ring doesn’t go onto your hook. You create a circle with the yarn and then work the stitches over it. You can replace a magic circle with a chain 3 or chain 4 and slip stitch into the chain furtherst from the hook to make a ring. It is sometimes easier to work into.

  3. When I first started crocheting, it was real hard. I gave up for some months, but when I saw this article, you motivated me to keep trying. So easy, thank you

    1. Work towards your yarn hand. So if you’re right handed you’re working to the left – anti-clockwise. If you’re right handed you’re working to the right – clockwise.
