Everything you need to learn to crochet

Learning to crochet can be an exciting and a daunting experience, but I am here to make it easy for you. Whether you are wanting to rekindle crochet after a long time off, or if it’s your first time picking up a hook, it can be difficult to know where to start and what to do, so below is everything you need.

Before you start crocheting a project, I recommend teaching yourself the foundations first. That means learning how to hold the hook and yarn, making the basic stitches and just getting comfortable with everthing. Too many times I see people give up before they’ve really given the craft a chance and the biggest reason is that they tried to jump too far ahead and are trying to make items that they just don’t have the foundational skills for (yet).

To help you get started, I have a free beginners guide. It has written instructions and pictures to guide you and I have videos to guide you on You Tube as well. Just click the Buttons below to what you need.

If you’re after a more comprehensive course with step by step written, picture and video instructions broken down into bite sized lessons, then my Stitches beginner course is the optimal way to help you learn. You can buy it as a stand alone course, or you can gain access to it for free when you join the Hooked on Crochet Club.

Once you’ve learned the foundations, THEN it is time to start on your first project. To help you with that I have a guide to reading crochet patterns. If you’ve learned from my Stitches Course then you won’t need to rely on this guide as you’ll have learned the foundations you need, but it’s handy to have as a prompt and reminder.

Make your first project small. It takes time to figure out what types of projects that you enjoy to make most. Making something small also helps you to build you confidence and build on your skills. A hat, bag, washcloths, baby blanket, granny squares, scarves, shawls and cowls are all great projects to begin with. You can find a variety of projects in my online store, ravelry and love crafts.

The ultimate place to learn and continue learning and adding to your crochet skills is with the Hooked on Crochet Club. This is my online membership designed to help crocheters move from being a Dabbler to being a Designer and anywhere in between. There is no other place like it! We provide monthly projects, weekly tutorials and much, much more. The doors only open a few times a year, so you’ll want to make sure you add your name to the waitlist so that you don’t miss out when they do open next.

And that is pretty much it! Crochet is truly my favourite craft of all and I am here to help you on your crochet journey too. Be sure to subscribe to my weekly blog and join my email list so that you keep inspired and keep learning!
