I am always going to be a promoter of crocheting, so here is another reason why…it’s the perfect craft for stress relief!
We live in a world that is full of stresses and I know I have been guilty of not finding enough time to relax and unwind.
Until I learned to crochet that is.
Now crochet is a daily habit that brings me great calm and stress relief to my every day.
If you choose the right patterns there can be something very meditative and calming about crochet. It’s why I choose quite repetitive patterns to design and make and why I prefer to work with a single colour or gradient yarn and why my patterns don’t involve a lot of counting. There is definitely a time and place for lots of colour and tricky patterns, but if you’re after stress relief then they are not the best patterns of choice.
Making a square a day is another way I find stress relief. Every morning I make a simple square. One that can be made in 15 minutes and doesn’t require too much thinking. It’s my form of meditation and it brings calm and clears my mind in the morning before the rest of the day begins.
Once you get familiar and comfortable with the stitches and a pattern the stress relief comes on.
The rhythm of the stitches.
Being able to lose yourself in creating.
The joy that comes from seeing a creation emerge into something you love. All help relieve stress.
What stress do you need relief from? Kids, work, family, friends, everything?!
Is crochet something that would benefit you? I know that I find it hard to just sit and relax. My hands need to be busy, and I would rather that they be busy with crochet and not with eating, drinking or mindlessly scrolling through games and apps on my phone.
If you can’t crochet just yet, but would like to give it a go, then I recommend that you take up my free beginners course. It has step by step instructions and video lessons to follow. And I can offer support in my facebook group, the Crochet Learning Corner.
If you can already crochet then I have lots of patterns that are designed to help you feel more calm! Check out my on-line store to find one that suits you.
I hope that you too can find more reason to crochet and bring more stress relief in your world.
I’d love to hear what crochet makes bring more stress relief to you day…
